AI (Artificial Intelligence) is altering the negotiation process. And it is increasing the negotiation skills of negotiators who embrace it. As AI becomes even more prevalent, negotiators who are absent of its use will find themselves more disadvantaged during negotiations. Do not allow that to happen to you – you will falter in your everyday activities if you do.

Continue and discover, in no particular order, seven new ways AI can make increasing your negotiation skills easier.

1. Profile Assembly – Through AI, negotiators can assemble profile insights about the individuals and corporations they negotiate with. To do that, they can use data found online and viable information from other sources to create an overview of essential information needed to improve their negotiation process. Engaging in this manner can also disclose the sources behind the other parties’ motivation, which would offer feedback about how to create a better negotiation plan.

2. Decoding Body Language – In today’s negotiation environments, negotiators can use AI algorithms to decode body language gestures displayed by their opposition. By having AI scrutinize and dissect facial, hand, and other nonverbal signals, negotiators can gain insightful information about unspoken thoughts that might otherwise remain hidden.

So, in future talks, consider video recording your sessions; as an aside, this could be a viable negotiation point. Then, between them, let AI critique the body language signs that the other negotiator committed while you were negotiating. That will disclose cues about how you might alter your strategies.

3. Negotiation Pattern Examination –  AI can examine prior negotiations and recognize patterns that led to successful or disappointing outcomes through its algorithms. That knowledge can afford negotiators additional insights to develop and modify the tactics that make up the strategies used in their discussions. The more significant aspect is that AI can do so quicker than it has taken negotiators to assemble such information in the past.

4. Negotiation Outcome Predictor –  Based on information assembled and inputted, AI can predict a negotiation outcome based on data analysis. Thus, negotiators could feed multiple scenarios into the model and receive direction that might occur based on the style of negotiations a negotiator employs – hard, mild, or soft. That would also allow negotiators to test strategies to develop a best-case scenario with predictions about the most significant outcome.

5. Practice Simulator –  AI can test the viability of a negotiation plan through its simulator process. In that environment, AI can act as the opposition, addressing offers and counter offers presented, which would lend further insights about potential weaknesses in a negotiator’s plans.

Accordingly, that would allow negotiators to ferret out mistakes before making them during negotiations. And there is an added value, without AI’s feedback, negotiators could enter practice scenarios without uncovering chinks in their plans.

6. Emotional Analysis – AI can analyze the words negotiators use and their pace of speech to identify the emotions and attitudes conveyed. By doing that, it can assess the degree of frustration in someone’s sentiments and the amount of impatience within that individual.

To benefit from this, negotiators can employ it between sessions to prepare for the next phase; they could also analyze the emotions that occurred at the end of a negotiation to build their data bank in preparation for talks with other entities. Regardless of the circumstances in which someone uses it, negotiators can strategically adjust their negotiation plans and how they approach a negotiation.

7. Risk Evaluation – AI can evaluate different strategies and assess the risk of using one versus another. Then, based on its assessment, it can rank and present the optimum approach to utilize, given different scenarios based on the negotiator type of opponent one will confront. By calculating and optimizing multiple negotiation strategies, negotiators can avoid potential impasses while quickly adapting to the altering flow of the talks.

AI has transformed the dynamics in which negotiators negotiate. To that end, AI has become the source of negotiation evolution through the use of profile assembly, decoding body language, negotiation pattern examination, and the other AI tools I have outlined.

You may have observed that I did not recommend any particular negotiation AI tools to accomplish what I laid out. That was intentional. Because AI is evolving so quickly, the tools you may discover today can easily become overshadowed by newer and more innovative AI tools within a few months. That is how quickly AI is advancing in negotiations.

Nevertheless, you will gain leverage and increase your skills, abilities, and outcomes if you grasp, utilize, and equip yourself with AI’s benefits in your negotiations. And everything will be right with the world.
