“Do You Know Where You’re Headed?”
Do you know where you are per the goals you’ve set for yourself? You’ll discover more about your abilities by knowing where your current position might lead.
Thus, you have to have goals for every stage of your life and each goal your reach should set the stage for the next step towards reaching your future goals.
So, when you’re seeking a particular outcome, understand how the knowledge you’ll gain in your current environment will be used to enhance the next step in the process. That’s to say pay attention to the mindset you possess and what motivates you as you encounter the ordeals of goal achievement. That’s also the reason I emphatically state, “You’re always negotiating”. That which you negotiate today impacts your goals for tomorrow; it’s a continuous evolution.
If you’re unsure of the path you should be on, if you’re not crystal clear about the way to success, if you’re not connecting your present to your future, you’re missing opportunities that you’ll never know presented themselves.
Sometimes, man stands in his own shadow and wonders why it’s dark. Instead of being complacent with one level of success, cast a long shadow. Seek the path that will always move you forward.
Don’t lose sight of your future due to a lack of direction, inspiration, and/or observation. Start connecting your tomorrow to today’s activities and you’ll be creating a brighter future for yourself … and everything will be right with the world.
What does this have to do with negotiations?
In a negotiation, you have to constantly know where you are in the negotiation based on the goals you set for it. In so recognizing, you know when to make adjustments to your strategies to get back on track. If you feel a sense of loss, call a time out and exit the negotiation for the time being. The sense that you experience may be your intuition alarming you to take another path in the negotiation. Be observant as to everything going on in your environment, including your own feelings. In so doing you’ll have a mental advantage. Use that and everything at your disposal to succeed … and everything will be right with the world.
Remember, you’re always negotiating!
