 “What’s Holding You Back?”

What’s holding you back? Is it you and the way you think? If anything is holding you back, first recognize that it is you. That’s because the mindset you possess about yourself and what you can achieve is completely controlled by you. Thus, if you assess that you can’t achieve something because it’s too difficult, it will become too difficult for you to achieve. As such, you won’t make an effort to achieve a goal that might have been achievable.

In every aspect of your life, be very mindful as to how you think about goals, your environment, and what you’d like to create for yourself. The degree to which you are and will be successful will be determined by the effort you put forth and the perspective you have about the return on those efforts. Thus, no matter what you achieve, the degree will be measured by your state of consciousness, which will then determine to what degree you’ll continue to move forward. No matter what you’re confronted by, move forward!

Keep in mind, just because you were not successful when seeking a goal in the past, doesn’t mean you won’t be successful the next time. You’ve grown in areas of your life, which means you’re not the same person with the same skills, possessing the same mindset as before. Even if you’ve been told no in the past, that doesn’t mean you’ll be told no in the future; no only means no for the moment.

So, go after your goals with a ‘can do’ attitude. When you think the sky is the limit, remember that man has walked on the moon. You can achieve anything that you don’t allow you mind to stop you from attempting to achieve. So, go forth and be the conqueror that you are … and everything will be right with the world.

What does this have to do with negotiations?

When negotiating it’s always your mindset that will determine how successful you’ll be. If you allow yourself to believe you can’t achieve the outcome you seek, you’ll go about attempting such half-heartedly, if at all. That’s not to say you should be foolhardy with what’s achievable; it’s to say, be reasonable with the beliefs about your capabilities. Test them to assess how viable your thoughts are about your beliefs. Do so constantly, because you’re always learning and growing. There are no boundaries to how high you can fly. Don’t let your mindset set such boundaries.

Remember, you’re always negotiating.
