Value Perspective Negotiation

Value, Perspective, Negotiation

What is value? Value is the degree to which you’ll exchange one possession for another. Thus, when you exchange one item of value, you do so to obtain an advancement in your current position. Therefore, your perspective of what you have determines the value of what you’ll attempt to acquire.

The point is, you have value in every environment you’re in, even if others disavow you of it. When others don’t respect or accept the value you possess, how do you react? Do you question your value? Do you deride yourself, thinking you should not be so presumptuous, per the value you possess? If that’s the case, you’re assuming someone else’s perspective of your value. If it doesn’t fit, don’t accept it. If it does, seek to enhance it.

When it comes to your value-add proposition, you have to place yourself in the proper environment before you can be appreciated for the value you possess. It may take courage to escape from an undervalued environment. Nevertheless, in order to grow in life, you have to see yourself as being valuable. Being in a nurturing environment will help you recognize your value faster. Once done, you’ll grow faster in life, become more valuable to yourself and others … and everything will be right with the world.

What does this have to do with negotiations?

In a negotiation, the give and take of a negotiation will allow both negotiators to view and be viewed as possessing value. To the degree both negotiators are respectful and allow the other to emotionally feel the gratitude of value that one has for the other, the negotiation will progress smoothly. To the degree that’s contrary, the negotiation with be froth with turmoil. When you find yourself in the latter, don’t become downtrodden. Instead, seek to exit the negotiation at the earliest stage that’s plausible. You’re too valuable to waste time not being respected. If you find better environments to negotiate, those in which your value is recognized and appreciated, you’ll begin to see yourself as being more valuable, win more negotiations … and everything will be right with the world.

Remember, you’re always negotiating!
